Abstract

The digital models accompanying a ship at the design, construction and operation stages have long developed separately, which limits data transfer between the participants of the life cycle and reduces the return on automation tools already in use. The digital twin, defined by the national standard as a system of a digital product model and two-way information links with it, connects these stages into a single information loop, yet the quantitative assessment of its contribution to the efficiency of marine equipment remains poorly formalized. The aim of the work is to build a computational model relating the stage configurations of the digital twin to measurable indicators of design, construction and operation for a model ship and bringing the assessment to an integral life cycle cost value. Cost modelling with discounting and sensitivity analysis are applied, with the reference base verified against current documents and 2025-2026 macroeconomic indicators. The calculation shows a reduction of the design cycle by 19,5%, a decrease of hull rework from 6,8 to 4,1% and a rise of the technical availability factor from 0,913 to 0,948; the discounted life cycle cost falls by 9,2%, with the operation stage providing more than two thirds of the effect.
